Rotterdam maritime History navigates home to stay

The end of July marked an important event for Rotterdam society: the SS Rotterdam, the former flagship of the Holland America Line (HAL) has finally returned to the port at which she was in 1958.

After a long career as trans-Atlantic passenger steam liner serving the ports of Rotterdam and New York and a second life as luxurious cruise liner sailing the Caribbean, a third life has been initiated near the centre of Rotterdam. The SS Rotterdam, still the biggest passenger-ship ever built in The Netherlands will be transformed into a multifunctional centre, hosting Restaurants, bars, hotels and convention centers. Close to the mtbs office and close to the Headquarters of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, this impressive piece of Dutch history is a mayor addition to the Rotterdam waterfront.

The return of the SS Rotterdam is one of many events hosted by Rotterdam this summer. Other major annual events around the White House this summer include the Red Bull Air Races, the Dance Parade, and the Formula 1 Tests.
