Last week Victor Timmermans, senior manager at MTBS, was one of the speakers at the Maritime Week in Mauritius. At the first day of the conference, Mr. Timmermans gave an overview of the African Container Terminal Transactions. One of his striking conclusions was that despite the many successful PPP transactions in Western Africa and Egypt, Eastern and Southern Africa are falling behind. While there is an urgent need for operational improvements and private capital to boost the various container ports in this region. Finally, recommendations for the implementation of successful PPP projects were shared with the audience.
