Maritime & Transport Business Solutions (MTBS) is proud to be mentioned as Knowledge Partner in the newest World Bank Report “Creating a Green Marine Fuel Market in South Africa” released in September 2024.
The report is based on the results of a Zero Carbon Bunker Study carried out by MTBS together with PRDW in 2023. The study highlights the total value chain from renewables-, green hydrogen- and green ammonia production to infrastructure developments for storage, transport and port facilities. The goal was to produce 280,000 tons of green ammonia, requiring a feedstock of around 50,000 tons of green hydrogen produced by solar and wind energy.
MTBS contributed to the value chain case study at the Port of Saldanha with technical shipping and transport know-how, financial modelling, sensitivities, and funding sources. The value chain approach is considered a step-wise approach in which each step can generate revenues through local off-takers, international export demand or to use as green marine bunker fuels. The study provided insights into green bunker ammonia’s competitiveness versus existing bunker fuels and determined feasibility price levels at which ammonia can be supplied to vessels.
MTBS has a green port task force to contribute to a greener transport sector, with specific green port projects on marine bunker fuels.
