On September 8th, 2017, MTBS and her Consortium presented the Final Masterplan for the Port of Cotonou to the Ministry of Transport of Benin in Cotonou, Benin, and the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Benin. The presentation on the financial, economic and institutional impact of the Consortium’s strategic Masterplan concluded a two-year project.
The Masterplan focuses on optimising the available port capacity in order for the port to be able to efficiently handle containers, general cargo, break bulk cargo and liquid bulk cargo until 2040. This includes the re-allocation of port terrain, the excavating of existing quay structures and the dredging of the North quay to -15.0 m C.D. The Masterplan also stresses the need to rehabilitate and extend the existing railway connection to the hinterland in order to improve connectivity, reduce the cost of transportation and improve the port’s competitive position.
